A week or so ago I received an email about Craig Arnold, an American poet who came to Japan on a prestigious Japan-American literary fellowship. He was working on a book of poems and essays about volcanoes, and he had disppeared on a small volcanic island. Although by Japanese law searches for such missing persons continue for only three days, the search for Craig continued into Golden Week. Now it is clear that he fell from a very high cliff and is dead. For more on this, read here.
