Dreaming of Africa

Yesterday I had this conversation with my son:

“I was thinking about entering a contest.  If I win, I get to go to Kenya for a couple of weeks.   You could stay with your aunt while I’m gone.  Would that be okay with you?”

He shrugged.  “Yeah, sure.”

So I submitted a story.

  1. Hi, I’ve been reading your blog for a while but decided to de-lurk now.

Your MIL seems to be showing the same symptoms as my mum and we only found out last year that she has Alzheimer’s. Maybe that could explain your MIL’s behavior?

  2. Thank you for delurking. We have suspected Alzheimer’s and submitted my MIL to various tests at the hospital, but the doctors concluded that her problem isn’t physical. Obviously there is something going on. I’m still thinking that Alzheimer’s is a possibility, but we’re also trying to figure out how to get her to see a mental health professional without a strait jacket.

  3. Good luck with the contest! I haven’t heard of that program before and, being that this evening I am in search of Calgon (“Take me away, Calgon”) your link piqued my interest. I’d definitely be game for Italy or Kenya. Well, at this moment – any of those locations. Again, good luck!
