Today we went cherry-blossom viewing in nearby Kamiita, where there are supposedly a thousand cherry trees. Interestingly, amidst the frothy trees, there is a “livestock center” with many cows, thus the delicate beauty of the blossoms is juxtaposed with the stench of manure. Thsi being Japan, there were also many stands selling cotton candy, cheap plastic toys and takoyaki. Jio and Lilia went around covering their noses with baseball caps, while I tried to compose haiku out loud. Something about the mortality of the cows and the ephemeral blossoms, or white milk and white blossoms…all of which made Yoshi roll his eyes.
(This photo was taken by one of my kids – not sure which one.)
